Performance
For Christian Messier, performance is above all the implementation of a presence which, through the organization of actions in time, seeks to touch the spectator as a musical composition would do, placing a whole range of variations of intensity on a score. Music is always the matrix of his performances, whether for its architectures or for its atmospheres.
Christian Messier does not approach actions as signs that would relate to a meaning, but rather as intensities to be felt. The faculty of empathy allows one to project oneself into the body of another. The artist therefore designs his performances in such a way that the spectator can experience this effect of presence. What Christian Messier shares with him is not his own ego, but rather a shell that he can inhabit like a simulator of sensations, sensations that Messier will have himself experienced hundreds of times by visualizing the actions while listening on a loop to the piece of music that will set the tone for the performance.
